My sister’s Melody is a favorite in our family. We just can’t get enough of her. I’ve been meaning to share a couple of outfits my mom made for her for Christmas. My mom absolutely loves making 60’s outfits for her because they remind her of the outfits she wore and saw as a little girl.
I adore this one:
It is made from the Campaign Jacket by Forever 18 Inches on Pixie Faire. The skirt is the Perfectly Pleated Skirt pattern by QT Pie Doll Clothing. The blouse underneath comes from the AG Truly Me riding outfit. Truthfully, it seems unlikely that Melody would have worn such a grown up looking blazer as a 9 or 10 year old, but she still looks adorable in it!
My mom says this dress below reminds her of the one she wore on her first day of kindergarten in 1967. The pattern is the Good Vibrations Sixties Dress by Forever 18 Inches.
Melody is just darling in anything, but I really admire my mom’s sewing skills and attention to historical accuracy in these outfits! Fun fact: the fabrics of these outfits are made out of clothes that belonged to my grandma. My grandma is unfortunately in a nursing home and unable to enjoy her extensive (and I mean extensive) wardrobe anymore. Rather that dispose of all of them to Goodwill or thrift stores, my mom decided to pull out some pieces that had great fabrics for doll clothes. She felt guilty at first for cutting them up, but I really wish she wouldn’t worry about it. I think it’s a very nice thought to have a great doll outfit made out of fabric that once belonged to Grandma. Melody seems to like them, at least. 🙂

Cool! She might have worn that first outfit to church. It wasn’t uncommon for little girls to wear simpler versions of their mom’s outfits for dressy occasions back then.

Melody looks ready to run for Senate, successfully too! I think it’s a wonderful tribute to your grandmother’s fashion habit to repurpose some fabrics.
The second dress is fabulous too and definitely reminds me of a little girl’s dress in the early 60s.

Outfits are awesome! Your Mom has a real talent, she should open an Etsy shop, I would definitely be her customer. 😉 I think that’s great that your sister has outfits made from clothing that once belonged to your grandmother.

Your mother is so talented! I think that is so lovely that you can recycle some of you grandma’s beautiful clothes into dolls clothes, I do that with all my siblings clothes to make my doll clothes but I think it’s even more special in your case :-*

Adorable! I love both outfits. I think using some of your grandma’s clothing to make outfits is a great idea, and in years to come, a great way to keep her in your thoughts. I have a couple of shirts my sister-in-law gave me that belonged to my brother that I’m going to make into doll clothes. She thought they might fit my husband, but no such luck, so the “girls” are going to benefit! I’ve actually gone to thrift stores to look for certain types of fabric just for the purpose, and I remember my mom doing it when she made Barbie clothing too. Reduce, reuse, repurpose!

Just LOVE these outfits and realize now that I have Melody, I really need to make the Campaign Jacket and pleated skirt for her! I just cut up a dress in 1930’s style print for my Kit doll from a dress I made my DD when she was young and it had a tear in it, so perfect to make doll clothes from it since it’s not salvageable. 😉
