Kirsten’s Ice Skating Adventure

Kirsten couldn’t wait to go outside on this beautiful day! She finally had some time to spend doing whatever she pleased, and what better activity in February than ice skating!

The sun was shining and the wind was blowing as she raced to the pond. She was so excited she barely noticed almost all the snow was gone.

She paused to button her coat as she approached her destination…

…and then reached down to buckle her skates.

As she did so, though, she glanced up and realized something was wrong…

…the ice had melted!

Kirsten and I aren’t too bothered, though. That can only mean one thing: spring will be here soon! 🙂

Kirsten is wearing her Limited Edition Skating Outfit from 1997. This outfit is the first thing I remember ever saving my own money to buy. I remember I had this little puzzle piece sticker sheet that came from Pleasant Company to help girls save money. Each time you reached a certain amount, you added a puzzle piece-shaped sticker to the sheet. When all the stickers were in place, they made a picture of all the historical dolls (Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, and Molly). I saved almost every bit of my American Girl memorabilia (catalogues, calendars, American Girl Club newspapers), but I don’t seem to still have this. I will look for it, though.

How did I make money as a seven year old? Well, I channeled my entrepreneurial spirit into a business of making and selling potholders. I wove them out of pre-made fabric loops on a little loom my grandpa made for me. I don’t remember being particularly successful with this venture, but I must have sold enough to buy the outfit!
