“Happy birthday, Emily,” sang Molly, Linda, and Susan cheerfully. Despite having had a combined birthday party with Molly last spring, the girls thought it was important that she got to have her own special birthday tea party today on her actual birthday.
Molly helped Emily position the birthday crown on her head. “It looks perfect, Princess Emily!” she said happily.
As Emily took her seat of honor, Molly and Linda whispered in her ear, “We should warn you, there is something Susan is very excited about–”
But no sooner had they started whispering when Susan plunked her surprise on the table. “I got you a perfect pumpkin, Emily! It’s perfect for your autumn birthday! We can use it as a party centerpiece today, and then carve it into a Jack-o-Lantern for Halloween, and then make it into a pumpkin pie! I really think that it will have a lot of uses and look how pretty it is! I mean, it’s perfectly round, and it is such a nice orange color…”
Susan continued to chatter about Emily’s birthday pumpkin as the girls sat down to have a birthday tea party. Emily thought it was a fabulous way to celebrate her birthday with her fun and thoughtful friends.
