School’s Almost Out

“Emily, I’m so excited that tomorrow is the last day of school! We can play outside and go roller skating and play jump rope!”

“Yes Molly, but we still have one more day of school left, we have a lot of school work still! Here, let me see your school bag.”

“See Emily, nothing to do! It’s practically summer!”

“Well we have a book report due tomorrow…”

“Finished it last night!”

“Ok, well we have a geography test. We have to label all forty-eight states…”

“Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas…”

“AND their capitals…”

“Montgomery, Phoenix, Little Rock, Sacramento, Denver, Hartford, Dover, Tallahassee, Atlanta, Boise, Springfield, Indianapolis, Des Moines, Topeka…”

“Ok, well what about the spelling test?”

“E-X-T-R-E-M-E-L-Y  E-A-S-Y.”

“Alright Molly, well I guess all that is left is the multiplication bee and I’ve had my tables memorize for ages, so let’s go play!”

“Um…multiplication bee? Are you sure?”

“Yes, of course, did you forget?”

“Come on Emily, we need to study! It’s time for flashcards! It’s not summer yet, there’s no time to play!”

  2. Poor Molly! She’s good at everything but math.
Great post, by the way. 🙂

Thanks! Haha, yep, this seemed like a good opportunity to delve into a classic Molly situation! The multiplication bee scene in Molly Learns a Lesson was a memorable one for me as a kid–I didn’t like math either.

Last day? Already? Here in Canada, school goes until the end of June! Lots of field trips for my daughter this month though!

Whoa, interesting! I guess I can’t speak for the entire U.S. but at least in my state most schools finish at the end of May…the school I teach at was one of the latest ones!
