Kirsten’s Cabin

I am so excited to share a big project I have been working on for a while now: Kirsten’s cabin! I wanted to do this because I have so many great doll accessories, but no real way to display them…my dolls need a place to live! There are so many great doll houses out there that are so inspiring, but I decided to take this project in a slightly different direction. I hope to eventually make a bedroom for each of my dolls, but I just really don’t have the space for 12 different doll bedrooms. I decided to create Kirsten’s cabin in a way that is completely collapsible and can be easily stored. The walls are just plywood with hinges, making a trifold (again, thank you to my amazing husband…seriously, he deserves a medal). I painted it to look like a log cabin and then furnished it. That was the fun part! I’ve had Kirsten’s bed since I’ve been little. My grandpa made it for me for Christmas, painstakingly copying the design from the catalogue. He made it from a cedar tree that had been removed from my parents’ property and it smelled so good and looked so beautiful that I just never had the heart to paint it blue like Kirsten’s actual bed. Kirsten doesn’t mind that it’s natural instead of blue. 🙂 My mom made the quilt to go with it as well as Sari. I don’t have Kirsten’s washstand and am not up for paying eBay prices for it right now, so I bought a little jewelry box from Michael’s and painted it blue. I think I will try to replicate the painted heart designs on it at some point. Virtually everything else that is a non-AG item is from Goodwill or a flea market.

I’m not completely done, and probably never will be. I will definitely keep adding to it as I accumulate more stuff. I did make curtains for the window, but haven’t found a way to hang them yet that looks good. I’ll keep working on it. I also tried a couple of different arrangements, as you can see.

I think Kirsten is very happy!
